چکیده

Abstract Introduction: The cerebral palsy and brachial plexus injury may cause asymmetry in the use of upper limbs (UL). This condition requires early treatment to reduce impact child's life; therefore, several proposed interventions aim increase their functional independence. Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) Hand-Arm Bimanual Intensive (HABIT) have been widely considered effective improve hand function. Objective: Investigate effects an intervention protocol based on CIMT HABIT theoretical foundations stimulation manual function infants with UL asymmetry. Methods: Five (6-24 months) participated study. To evaluate motor we used Pediatric Motor Activity Log (PMAL-R) Manual Function Evaluation (AMIGO), assess caregiver's perception participation infant daily tasks, Disability Assessment Inventory (PEDI). All evaluations occurred before, immediately after intervention, four months for follow-up recording, were analyzed descriptively by Jacobson- Truax method. Results: results between evaluation reevaluation demonstrated evolution all aspects studied. In PEDI self-care session, average 38.6 (±8.4) - 44.2 (±7.4); Mobility: 28.8 (±20.3) 36.28 (±21.7); Social Function: 40.1 (±10.2) 42.3 (±8.9). PMAL-R quantity quality evidence a highly positive clinical significance infants. Conclusion: application modified restriction resulted reliable clinically significant changes cases.

Outcomes of asymmetry in infants with congenital muscular torticollis

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to assess the outcomes of asymmetry in infants with congenital muscular torticollis (CMT). [Subjects] A total of 102 patients with CMT under the age of 6 months were studied. [Methods] Asymmety was evaluated by determining the difference in the thicknesses of the two sternocleidomastoid muscles (DTSM) using ultrasonography, head tilt (HT) based on a physi...

The Beginnings of Deductive Reasoning Abilities in Infants

There is wide disagreement over when children begin to show deductive reasoning skills that adults use daily. Preschoolers have previously demonstrated deductive reasoning skills (Dias & Harris, 1988, 1990; Hawkins, Pea, Glick, & Scribner, 1984; Richards & Sanderson, 1999) through verbally presented hypothetical syllogisms. The present study employed a habituation paradigm with 18-, 22-, and 26...

Intervention Effect Asymmetry and the EPP

Although Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin are all wh-in-situ languages, they differ with respect to intervention effects. I use the term ‘intervention effects’ in accord with Beck (1996) and Beck and Kim (1997) to refer to ill-formedness that results when a particular phrase, generally a quantificational and/or focus element, c-commands a wh-phrase. In this paper, I refer to intervenors as ‘quant...

Future learning abilities of late preterm infants.

TO THE EDITORS: We read with interest the thought provoking editorial written by Dr Taylor 1 outlining that late preterm (LP) birth, considered as delivery at 32 to 36 6/7 weeks' gestational age, carries risks for adverse effects on those infants' future learning abilities. Dr Taylor confirmed that more information on perinatal factors will increase the precision of estimates of individual risk...
